BBQ and Swimming Hole
Relax and unwind with a Kiwi BBQ
Within the foundations of The Waterworks are the family traditions of the Coromandel Community. Packing the kids in the car, chilli bin bursting with food in the boot. Off to spend the day with family and friends. Locals have been doing this for generations.
We have picnic sites scattered around the gardens. Claim your spot under a big shady tree or on the banks of the babbling Wairau River. A chippie sandwich after a dip in the river. Or salmon kebabs grilled on one of our FREE gas BBQs. Bringing family and friends together to play and picnic is The Waterworks tradition.
Don’t forget your swimming gear!
“Wait 30 minutes after lunch before you go swimming!” my mother would yell as I ran towards the water with my half eaten Marmite and Chippie sandwich in one hand and a bottle of my aunties soda stream in the other.
Back in those days we couldn’t ask Siri or google search, but we could run faster than mum.
The waterhole at The Waterworks is as world famous to the Coromandel as:
- The Big Carrot is to Ohakune
- The Kiwifruit is to Te Puke
- The L&P Bottle is to Paeroa
- The traffic jams are to Aucklanders
- The seven’s were to Wellingtonians
Jump in and cool off; do some choice bombs off the diving board or frolic and splash with friends and family.
Note you are responsible for the safety and supervision of your children at all times.
